The MRF F1600 is India’s Premier single seater race car built at JA Motorsport Coimbatore, with technical collaboration with Van Diemen. It is part of India’s National Racing Championship for the past seven years. The design, development and manufacturing of the cars were undertaken between 2008 & 2010. And the first official testing was done at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia In 2009, followed by a test at Madras Motorsport Race Track, Chennai, India.
From early 2010, the championship began with races in Chennai and Coimbatore with upto 16 drivers from around the world. Over the years, we have had some of the worlds best drivers, who have used our championship to grow in their racing career. To name a few, Jordan King, Alice Powell, Gaurav Gill…etc
And since then we are running the championship every year, with 5 or 6 rounds in India. Back in 2011, we ran the support race during the inaugural Formula One Grand Prix of India at Buddh International Circuit, New Delhi.
MRF, one of the largest manufacturers of tyres in India is our tyre supplier. They are our technical partner since the start of our series. MRF has developed their very own tyre compound called the MRF ZLO, for use within our championship. Both the slick and wet compounds have been proven to be extremely fast and at the same time very reliable.
The F1600 championship serves as a brilliant and cost effective stepping-stone to compete and grow as a race driver within the world of motorsport.
